1. Welcome
Thanks for reading this update from inframes.com, the creative internet technology company.
A message from the editor:
In our last mailout I remarked that we'd been in business for over two-and-a-half years, a landmark which had passed unnoticed at the time. What had not occurred to me and now seems markedly more significant is that Dan Rosewarne and I have now been working together longer as an independent company than we ever did at SCOOT, where we began our stratospheric rise. Alright, stop laughing in the back.
It's also about 12 months since my old friend Justin Beasley joined inframes.com ltd. So, I'd like to take this opportunity to say thanks to Justin and Dan for being my business partners, all-round good eggs and fellow geniuses.
But it seems overly sentimental to dwell on the past, so please read on for a look at our future.
All the best
Jon Ewing

3. Members Only! A Client Case Study
Biogene Ltd
Good websites are as much about customer care as they are about sales or marketing - a fact that's not lost on Nelson Nazareth, who recently invited inframes.com ltd to redesign and rebuild the website for BioGene, a Cambridgeshire-based firm which provides products and support to molecular biologists.
Membership Management
The core of BioGene's "members only" area, the BioClub, is the Resource Bank, which is open only to individuals authorised by the company. Non-members can of course read about BioGene products, but only representatives of legitimate biotechnology companies can benefit from the hundreds of articles, FAQs and technical reports painstakingly collated by Nelson's team in Kimbolton.
Multi-threaded Searching
We've integrated the power of two different search engines to allow BioClub members to query the product database and Resource Bank simultaneously. And we've linked the results of both search algorithms directly to our own Shopping Trolley software, so that BioClub members can buy as well as research online.
Money-saving Development Strategy
Behind the scenes, we've saved our client unnecessary expense by upgrading some of BioGene's existing admin tools, which were set up by another design company early last year using Drumbeat, the ASP authoring tool for non-programmers. We've even preserved as much of the original database structure as possible. "With our new website, we're not taking just one emphatic step forward, but two," says Nelson. "First, we've responded to the demands of customers and realised a few ambitions. And second we've laid the foundations for future growth by regionalising our site as we prepare to expand BioGene into new international territories."

4. The Most Personalised iTV System In The World
Using our content management solution, Streamline, Europe's largest Internet TV company has launched a unique new personalisation process. From September, switch on a new set-top box and you will automatically be recognised from the ID number on your smart card and matched to data securely stored online in the Freedomland subscriber database.
Integrated systems provided by inframes.com and our collaborators then enable you to create up to five personal profiles - one for each member of the household and each with its own unique web-based email address.
Not only that, Streamline creates a new layer of data for each member, in which your own personal preferences are redefined with every click. So instead of choosing Sport and Cookery as your favourite subjects for ever more, you simply click on the links that interest you and Streamline alters your profile accordingly, shifting the priority of your favourite categories in real time.
We'd like to thank Oracle expert Dave Givens from Phaldor IT Solutions
(www.phaldor-it.co.uk) and Oregan's Adrian Gartland and Nick Holmes
(www.oregan.net) for their perseverance and hard work in helping to build this new end-to-end registration process for Freedomland (www.freedomlandonyour.tv).
5. Secrets of Search Engine Submission
Our old friend and freelance website designer Dave Gerrard has written a splendid online article called "Making your website more productive: getting it found" at his site, dgcv.co.uk. This is a straight-talking overview of how to move your site up the search engine rankings. And the bad news is, you can't cheat your way to the top. Read his article here

9. Swap and Barter
A special thanks to all at Le Fevre Communications (www.lefevre.co.uk) in Oxford, who kindly exchanged two of their old computers for some of our time earlier this summer. As a result, we've got a dedicated new email server and they've got a smart little bit of software for sending personalised mailouts to their clients. And what the tax man doesn't know won't hurt him - wink, wink.
Thanks also to Howard from Stat-mail (www.statmail.co.uk) and Sanjeev from Designer Discount (www.designerdiscount.co.uk) for taking part in recent ad swaps with What The Papers Say. If you've got unused inventory on your site, or space for an ad in your company mailout, we should talk. You can download our banner here
